a little bit about me

they | them | theirs

My approach to design begins with and revolves around colours. I develop unique colour stories for each project to create a strong visual impact, down to the tiniest of details.

I am passionate in designing for new works, and creating characters from the ground up in collaboration with the entire team. I am happiest when I am working with my hands, and experimenting with new-to-me techniques and mediums. My biggest inspiration and driving force is community, and hope to celebrate the joy and lived experiences of my BIPOC, queer, and trans kin with my art.

Born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia to a family of Chinese ancestry, I am grateful to live, create, and work on the unceded and traditional lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations, colonially known as Vancouver, BC.

My journey to costume design emerged from a love of literature. I found it to be a delightful culmination of my skills and interests in close text analysis, fashion, textile manipulation, and art history. Coupled with my background in stage management and administration, I also aim to streamline and facilitate creative collaboration through beautifully colour-coded paperwork and clear, compassionate communication.

In addition to my professional work in costumes, I write a monthly newsletter on colour & joy called local colour, and am cultivating a studio practice that revolves around painting, making silly comics and zines, and committing to elaborate bits through crafting wacky garments and accessories.
